This place is great! Our server zach was amazing!
I still am iffy about the iPad menus. It just doesn't seem very sanitary to me, but I'm sure they are. That's my sole complaint with this place. The menus on the iPads work great just the sanitation thing.
I had the cowboy steak and loved it. More than enough food. A bit rarer than I would have liked, but when you order medium rare you get used to sending it back bc it's a hard thing to get to. Other than that, what an amazing steak. WOW!
I got the 3 ice creams for dessert. All house made and amazing. Doubled up on the cookies and cream and got a salted caramel. All great!
The only thing that sucks about this place is the bread. It may be the worst bread I've had at any restaurant. It's never cooked all the way through and they bring it to you in a really weird way.
Really good meal with great service. -

Came here for the boyfriend's birthday to take advantage of the special deal.
Chop House does mostly live up to the hype. Our meal was very good -- extremely rich fare that will put you into a coma for a couple days.
The only miss here was the calamari. We ordered it on recommendation of the server, but were ultimately disappointed. There wasn't anything special about it -- calamari you could get anywhere, and the sweet and sour sauce that came with it was overpowering. It didn't go with the rest of the meal and ended up not being worth the money or space in our stomachs.
We split the cheesy gnocchi dish -- it was extremely rich and delicious, so get ready to commit to a lot of butter and carbs.
My beef Wellington was tasty, nice tender meat and yummy pastry crust, and a very generous portion.
Boyfriend enjoyed his cowboy steak. Not the best steak he's ever had but certainly very good.
It got weird when we transferred over to La Dolce Vita for dessert. We got conflicting information from the staff in Chop House vs La Dolce Vita -- at first it seemed they just didn't want to accommodate our request to get a dessert they still had leftover but was taken off-menu (tiramisu, I believe). The servers at LDV seemed aggravated that we only wanted one dessert and not to spend more on drinks. It was kind of rude.
All in all a nice experience -- I would not go if it weren't for the special occasion and birthday discount, but it's worthwhile if you like steakhouses and overfeeding yourself. :P -

4.5/5 for the food and like 6/5 for the service, so The Chop House gets 5/5 stars from me.
I had been wanting to try The Chop House for forever, and it was my boyfriend's birthday yesterday so we decided to YOLO it and drive from Clawson to Ann Arbor (about 1h15m in weekday traffic, ick) for the 50% off birthday deal - valid only ON your birthday, 50% off your entire check excluding alcohol.
I had read on Yelp that they do happy hour at the bar until about 7pm, and we showed up at 6:40pm for our 7pm reservation, so we got our drinks at the bar, to take advantage of the half-off specials. Sergio took very good care of us, and asked if we were celebrating anything (his birthday and also our anniversary!). After we settled the check, we were shown to our table.
I forget our server's name but she was very good. We ordered the 11 oz. filet (me) and the 16 oz. Australian wagyu ribeye (him), which was on the specials list. I think my filet at regular price was about $54.99, and his was $80. I had read Valerie's Yelp review previously that mentioned that same filet, and originally our plan was to split that, if they had it, but our waitress said that it has a lot of marbling (ie, fatty pieces) so I opted for the filet. Both were delicious but I have to say that his steak was better than my filet. They'll also tell you to order one level up because TCH cooks their steaks more on the rare side; so I ordered mine medium, instead of medium rare.
For sides, we ordered the potatoes au gratin, which came out more like a potato lasagna, and Brussels sprouts, which had bacon and a Dijon sauce. Both of those were very good too.
Dessert was the creme brulee, and they brought it out with a birthday candle for my boyfriend. Waitstaff also brought us an anniversary plate (a plate with "Happy 3rd Anniversary") on it for us with a box of two small truffles - a very nice touch.
I'll be honest and say the filet wasn't the BEST I've ever had, but it was also quite tasty and the seasoning (pepper to salt ratio) was perfect. I am a steak snob though so you may want to take my review with a grain of salt (pun intended). My boyfriend's wagyu ribeye was one of the best steaks I've ever tried, though, and one of the most tender that was not a filet.
Overall I was very impressed by The Chop House - no less than 3-4 waiters/waitresses came over to us to say happy anniversary and also happy birthday to my boyfriend, and even Sergio came back before we left to again wish us happy anniversary/HBD. I'll definitely be coming back here at some point, although probably during A2 Restaurant Week or perhaps for my birthday in January - the steaks run from like $40 (steak frites) to $80 (the wagyu), with most being in the $50-60 range, and everything is a la carte. -

Wow, just actually wow. The food and steak was just sooo good. I'm not usually an avid meat loving person but we had the best server and she recommended getting the filet blackened with the herb butter and it was truly life changing. My brother got the wagyu which was crispy but equally melt in the mouth worthy. He also said the lobster bisque soup is as incredible as they say it is ("most sought after recipe in Ann Arbor" and takes two days to make) this place is an 11/10, but maybe it's because we had the most awesome server. Also, the pictures don't do it justice

With so many choices of great restaurants in MI, we decided to give this one a try while celebrating Robin's birthday. We had heard from a few friends that was the place in Ann Arbor to try and the enticement of a half priced total bill on a birthday was also a huge enticement. First let me say that the crab gnocchi that we ordered as our starter was wonderful. The bread served hot from the oven was a parmesan roll which was also excellent. My wife tried the Beef Wellington which was served as pretty as the photo on the very cool IPAD menu which we were given upon arrival. She really enjoyed it . I on the other hand expect that when dining in an exclusive high end steak house that the chefs know how to cook the beef to the correct temperature. We were told to order our beef cooked up one level to achieve what we normally ordered. I ordered a medium well steak and what I received was probably closer to medium rare. I wonder if someone in the kitchen misread the order? Our waitress Eman who did a nice job taking care of us checked to be certain that the error was not on her end and it was not. Suffice to say that I ate the outside half of the steak but did not wish to have to wait to have the rest of it cooked. Anyway we enjoyed dessert but I am still a bit bummed that the steak was not perfectly cooked. I have a birthday coming in October and we were thinking that if tonights meal were perfect that we might just make a return visit. Alas I may have to try Mortons or Ruths if I am still craving that perfect filet.
